Hi all, Does anyone know if ford ever recalled there slave cylinders for the hydralic clutches. i have 300 5 speed, and ive done the slave cylinder 5 times. Everytime requiring me to pull the tranny. Seals allways blow. Is there any permanent fix? Is there different fluid to try rather than dot 3?? thanks
You might check to see if there are any TSB'S (Technical Service Bulletins) or recalls for your truck. The dealer could probably tell you by running your Vin number. There are also some websites that have some of this data. Do a google by ford recalls or TSB'S or Technical Service Bulletins and you should get some results.
I doubt if there are any recalls(but it won't hurt to check)it would cost Ford a fortune. Ford used these with the 5 speed transmission for many years. There is no other fluid to try that I know of. You say seals always blow, Do they blow completely or just start leaking a little? On my 1988 F-150 I just add a little brake fluid about once every 10 days, a 12 oz. container will last a long time. I replaced my slave cylinder about 50K miles ago along with the clutch and pressure plate replacement. It leaked right from the get go. I have been getting along well by just keeping the clutch master cylinder topped up.
I'm sure there are no active recalls, but there might have been some in the past. My '90 has never leaked either, however I replaced the slave cylinder when I had the engine replaced about three years just so I would not have to go back in there. The one I put in three years ago has never leaked either. I know on that year model Ford is not going to do anything. This may have been a Monday morning or Friday afternoon build in 1994.
