i would say yes. the diaphram can tear internally and cause the fluid to flow past why dont you give me/ us some more info such as symptoms and what makes you think it is the slave cylinder
well me and a friend were out 4byin when i got stuck in a real nasty hole so i got out and hooked up my winch when i got back in the truck it would not go into gear it would just grind. so i pulled the truck out of the hole with my trusty side kick "warn" when i gopt it out i bled the clutch and it worked............for like 3 gear changes and then it was back to no clutch i looked around and there was no leaks anywhere. thats why i was asking if a slave could go with no leaks.
It doesn't take much of a leak to kill it. Chances are the fluid is being held in the bellhousing area still. Or you could just have air getting in somehow. That'll jam up the works in a hurry.
well i dont want you to "shotgun" it it seems strange that it worked fine up to the point that you got stuck but if it worked once you bled it (be it only 3 times) i would say throw 25 bucks at it. look at your hose really close pin hole leak and you will have the same trouble with the new one. let me know what you find out plz. interested in the out come
i had this exact problem in a 95 f series this week at work...i would bleed the clutch...it would be fine...let it sit for a little while and then no clutch...i ended up removing the master cylinder to bench bleed it and i found the seal where the pushrod goes was seeping fluid past it and letting small maounts of air in..i put a master in it and it was good.
well i put a new master in and it worked ( not perfect) for one day and now its back to the same old thing should i try bleeding it again?( what a pain in the a$$) or do you think it is the slave even though it is still bone dry

clamp it in a vice put the tube coming off into a dish of brake fluid fill the resevor and with a philips head screwdriver push the piston in and let out keep doing this till there is no air coming out of the tube in the dish. once done with that put on and then bleed the slave cyl..
well i went under to disconnect the tube from slave and i noticed that the slave cylinder is now leaking. so tommorow out comes the tranny i guess

i might be totally off my fruking rocker but since when did the trans have to come out to replace the slave cyl. ??????? is it not external maybe i am wrong someone shed some light on this for me. i had a 84 250 that the slave just un bolted from. if i am wrong let it be known i dont want to be throwing misinformation around.
the newer slaves are internal...they bolt to the inside of the bellhousing. the throwout bearing and slave are all one piece. the rangers are this way also.
