I just got my '05 F150 with the work truck package. It was a 'dump it' deal. Standard cab, white, 4X2, 4.2L, AOD, AC with the towing package of course. Only $13+K, sence it was so cheap I got the gold package warrenty.

I dig the options. I am going to put in the changer CD player, a tach and maybe a bull bar. I kind of feel the same way as you guys about this work truck package.

I have a 2005 STX work truck and a 2004 FX4 Personal truck.

Both f150's have 4wd.... but that is it.

The FX4 wins hand over fist compared to the STX.

The STX doesn't have cruise, a tach, power windows/locks, openable rear windows, skid plates, heavy shocks, overhead console, fog lights, electronic 4wd, tinted windows, soft cloth seats, 5.4 v-8, good rubber...

It seems harder to drive, and is really not a nice vehicle. I love my FX4 and would never think of owning anything less...

mkoser: What do you mean the STX is harder to drive than your '04?

Yes, I'm curious too. I have a reg cab two wheel drive STX, and can't imagine any truck easier to drive. Is it hard to handle the four by part on the work truck?
Or does it have 8 ply tires or something?
I have driven a number of Lariats, but found all of them harder to drive than my STX, mostly because the suckers were Supercrews with all that extra length. Not hard to drive, just harder than a reg cab.
But handling should be the same in each type, I would think.

Or just hard to drive because you are a touch spoiled with that 300 horsepower 5.4

Wish I had one, but really can't complain about the 4.6 with magnaflow and Superchips... still, more cubes = better.

Only 300HP with the 5.4? I was told my little 4.2 V6 had 240HP. That true or was I lied to?

Git er dun!

Picked up the new truck yesterday. Very happy.

It is a 2005 F-140 4x4 supercab. It is the work truck option but somehow came with the cloth seats at no charge. It is dark shadow grey, 5.4 liter engine, 3.73 limited slip, 6 foot bed, speed control, and has the tow package.

I will probably put a CD player in it, high flow air filter, and maybe better looking wheels in the future. Anyone taking the stock alloys off their truck let me know.

Hi Joe - did you get that from a local dealer? Any left?

I'm looking at about 15,500 for manual white work truck package with
ac/4.2L etc. That includes 2500 cash back and 1000 rebate for financing.
This is in northern Colorado.

Sorry man. It was a single sale deal. I don't know about your area that that dosn't seem like the best deal. Around here it seems like every 2 or 3 months they have a sheep like mine they sacrafice. Heck they had some nicly optionioned F150 super cabs for $15,771. Had 3 of em. The deal is like this for em: 24,265 MSRP, $2394 sound disc., 3500 ford/fmcc cash, $1000rtmc, $750rcl, $750dsp $500collage grad.
Check em out at www.soundford.com

Joe, that's the kind of deal I got, and have been very happy. My STX listed for just under 24k, drove it home for 12,995 plus tax etc.

I've put about 2500 bucks into mods, including power windows, seats, door locks, keyless entry, tailgate lock, Hard folding tonneau, bed mat, stubby antenna, exhaust, Superchips, express up down windows, cruise, leather wheel, Kenwood 622, speakers, amp subwoofer, ventvisors, 'trunk lock for the front of the tonneau, 18 inch Lariat wheels/tires, K&N, Backup camera, front camera, LCD in-dash, scangauge, FX4 IP, Vaccum gauge, Homelink, Lariat a/c vents, autopark backup alarm, maybe DVD indash, if I can give up my Kenwood. etc.
And I'm still more than 7k under sticker. Plus I've had a lot of fun modding the truck.
Chris
Not to mention that even a Lariat doesn't come with most of the things I've added.

My XL ran me $13,600 or so. I didn't get all the rebates I thought I should have. They advertised it as a $10,360 (or so) truck. All I got was the Ford + dealer cash back. They said I would have saved like $1000 if I had something on Ford credit LOL. I'm not planing on putting that much stuff into my truck. Here is the link to one of my pages, its got my truck and what I did and am doing to it: '05 F150

What did ya put the vaccum gauge in for? I want to put in a tach. Someone said that autogauge had a piller for gauges but I can't find anything for my truck.

Yes, for folks who don't live where I do, there is a pillar mount.
Two gauges, 2 inch I think.
Your 'work truck' looks fine to me. The ford interior is nice in any layout.
And boy does it come apart easy. Putting my cameras in this week I had the kickpanel cowl, center piece and radio out. Not hard to do. 8 bolts total. Four on the radio.
The Vaccum gauge is to tell you when you should back off the throttle. When you drive for gas mileage you need either a vaccum gauge, or an instant readout gas meter. I have the gauge, and the Scangauge, which displays darn near everything under the hood. I have it set for Tach, instant Mileage, MPH (it's more accurate than the speedo, and the forth corner is whatever holds my interest that day.
If I'm doing hills, I set it to engine lode. If it's cold outside, or hot I set it either for engine compartment temp, or water temp.
The scangauge keeps track and tells you what you did that day, or yesterday. How many RPMs, how much gas used, mileage, gas mileage, how hot it got, etc. etc. etc.

If I had been able to get one when I first bought the truck, I would have skipped the Vaccum gauge and FX4 Ip, and just installed that on my dash.
Of course, I had the other two things when scangauge started makeing them work on CAN systems.

I wanted an aftermarket tach, but the cost was high, and nobody could tell me for sure it would work. You have to buy an autogage type tach, and their 'adaptor'.
With mount, a 3'' tach would cost about 200-225. The scangauge has gone up to 129. They were at 99 before Christmas.
