I need to replace mine as the gauges do not work all the time, the alt has never worked. I replace the voltage regulater on the back and it seemed fine for a couple of weeks before they died again. They did work again the next day, but I'm tired of this, never know when they'll quit.
Mine has the circut board backed cluster and I was wondering if a wire based one will work? 67 - 72 are the same size, but Ford switched to circuit boards sometime during this period. Has anyone made this swap? Will the older ones plug into the new wire harness?
I would expect that they are quite different, try to find a similar unit to see if it helps. The alt. gauge is not very responsive so don`t expect it to move very much if at all. I am lucky that I have spares for most of my old trucks so I can swap around to help with a diagnose.
