i was wondering if anyone who has high flow cats on there truck could tell me how much of a power difference there is after installation versus with factory cats
i have a 96 150 and was considering putting one on. also would it cause the exhaust to get louder
I have a highflow 2nd cat on my 96, it did make it 10-15% louder maybe? Better yet you should replace both with a single highflow.. The hp gain you get is pretty small.
I have dual Catco highflow cats on my truck and can tell you going from no cats to the Catco's made no difference in the power on my truck so they aren't very restrictive. I would say going from factory cats to highflows might give you a few horsepower, but if the factory ones were clogged up the gains would be alot more.
i put on an eastern true performance high flow cat. 300 holes per inch, which is apparently the best flow possible. No power or mileage improvement unfortunately. A little louder, that's all.
Check out Carsound cats, they are high flow. On a 95 Disco Rover with 4.6 litre (was a 3.9) with performance chip, cam and Borla exhaust. Between gutted factory cats and Carsounds you couldn't detect the power or torque difference. Here in Calif. the smog test results with the above setup, 4 of 100 max HC at idle, 5 of 180 max HC at 2,500 rpm's. This is a sniff test like years ago because I have full time 4 wheel drive and can not run on the new "dyno smog test". For $108 (cash and carry) for 2 cats that flow better than factory $1,300, which one would you use?
