I'm going to be painting a computer case this week, and it will require some detailed masking. Problem is, the paint ALWAYS seems to pull up everytime I go to remove the tape... any suggestions??? Do I let the paint dry too long? Or not long enough?? Should I use a tape other than masking tape???
Next question: The case is matte black, with a slightly rough surface. Should I prime?? If I prime... the color this emblem will be is Hugger Orange (yayaya... I know... it's a GM color... sorry ), so what color of primer should I use? Should I use just a black primer to fill in some of the rough stuff? Should I use a regular grey primer? Or should I use a white primer to maybe help brighten the orange??
BTW: I'm painting this by spray can (areosal). This is close to what I'm doing (upper right corner)... http://www.okstate.com/
Get an exacto knife to cut around the tape. Don't go too deep. I would use gray or white primer. Do a test panel on something else with each color, to see what the final color will look like. Good luck with it.
sand down the case with some light sandpaper to get and oils or gloss off, this may be why the paint is not bonding well. and when you pull the tape off dont pull straight up off the case, pull it to the side so it is not lifting the paint.
