hi, i want to remove the old red paint on my torino and put a black primer and i need help with how to remove the red paint , should i sand the red paint completely off , or do i sand off the gloss on the paint, then primer over ?
i also need to know to what grit sand paper should i get to when ready for primer, and should i use water and is there some special cleaning do be done before putting on primer?
thanks guys.
There is alot of answers to these questions depending on what your final plans other than primer might include. Some older vehicles have been painted so many times it's almost impossible to just sand and primer and not practical. My 66 f-100 had paint thicker than the body metal had to go to bare metal which is the only way to get a smooth finish Remember this each time it was painted to to hide or fix a flaw. Think this project through and save yourself headaches and doing the work over, over, and over!
good advise. the body on my 53 looked good until i sanded of
50 years of paint, primer and fill. found alot of suprises. if i would
of just sand and painted it would of lasted about 6 months.
go all the way to bare metal. takes awhile but worth it.
