OK, all of my door locks to include the rear hatch won't work. There's a relay that was tested that is good, so all I can figure is it's the actuators on all of the doors. Have you ever heard of such an issue? they'll move but don't have the power to move up or down. Any suggestions? I have a 2000 Ex Limited 4X4.
This is a well documented issue. The only fix is to replace the actuators. They're about $140 online for all four doors. Not sure how much the the rear hatch unit costs. Search door lock actuators and you'll find how to articles. I did all four doors on my 2001 Ex and they all work fine now.
The replacement units are a totally differnt design.
Glad it's documented and I hope there's a TSB out there. I've got an extended warranty that Ford accepts so hopefully with my hundred dollar deductable I can get it done quickly. Should I be looking for any other types of issues? My mileage should really suck, right? This is my first excursion. I've owned F150s, 250s, several explorers, two expeditions and this thing doesn't pass a gas station... Is there anything I can do to improve the mileage? Damn I love this thing....
I have a '00 Exc ltd and the pwr locks just started fading....only the driver and rear hatch will lock/unlock with the driver or passenger switches or the remote or keypad. Based on your posts I suspect the actuators....would three go out at once? Should I start there or check the relay first? Also, should I replace all 5 actuators even if two are still working?
Well, believe it or not, all of mine are not working. I'm taking it in on Monday to have them all repaired. Apparently this is a recurring issue with the excursions and luckily I've got an extended warranty. Anyway, wish I could do something about my mileage.....
I had the same problem with my X. Do a search for member "Cuinak" and view his gallery. He has a great step by step procedure for replacement along with pictures. It makes the job easy, compared to taking it to the dealer and them charging you $$$$$$$$$$$. The thread was called "Door lock actuator replacement procedure". I even got the parts guy at Ford to give me a discount on the actuators. Hope this helps you out.
