I know this has been asked, and I have seen the threads regarding lock actuators and tin foil fixes, but, is there anything else that would cause the lock failure? It seems kinda coincidental that all my locks don't work. Shouldn't one?
My locks make noise when activated, key fob or door button. Some move a hair, some not at all. They are all stiff when manipulated manually.
All 5 actuators quit including the rear liftgate. Sorry, I forget which actuator style the liftgate actuator is. In fact I forget which actuators are alike. Meaning the front left and front right are different but I forget which the rear gate is. I got the wrong ones twice so I got all confused... Anyway they are not that tough to install and it is well worth it! I am really happy with the nitto terra grapplers in sand. I ride in deep sugar sand often when getting my 4 wheeler and/or dirt bike out to ride. I never even air down (keep them at 55-60 psi) and they drag the truck and trailer with two 4 wheelers right through (in 4x4 hi)- this includes going up sugar sand hills.
I just did the lock actuator fix. Its really not that bad to do. If I can do it anyone can. Mine all went out within a month. Would only move slightly. The thread to fix is on the super duty site. I use my phone so can't copy the link. Try one and see if it works. Takes about an hour for the first and the rest are easier. Good luck
I also did the actuator fix. I used cut-up pennies instead of the aluminum foil wrap option. I highly suggest doing the as opposed to buying new actuators, especially if you're on a budget like me. Best 3 cents i ever spent
I got actuators for $20-25 each on Amazon. It's expensive to replace but I didn't want to mess with the pop rivets and repair. If the actuators are old and you drive in dusty areas, it wouldn't surprise me that all went bad. The inside of my door is full of fine dust. Good luck!
You guys missed the part where I said I'm an idiot with that stuff. I was hoping for something else to try before pulling the door panels off and inevitably breaking something. Looks like I'll buy a couple of actuators and start there. If I'm successful, maybe I'll try the repair route next.
I'm not good and have limited tools. I bought one new actuator because I didn't trust myself to do the job. Then after I replaced it and it worked I tore into the old one and did the fix with copper wire. Worked awesome and was easier than I thought. Took all my other actuators out and fixed them. Took the new one I bought back and got my money back. Its really easier than it looks
Agreed. Ford made it really easy. You pull a couple screws, pull the panel, unhook some rods and cables, and wiggle the thing out. Just be sure to test it before reassembly. It takes about 20 mins. There is even a YouTube video or two.
