I know this has probably been done before, but I would be curious about any additional updates anyone has.
I am interested in the problems people have had with their SD's. I have an F250 with the 7.3L. I am just looking for a list of potential problems other people have had and at about what mileage they occurred.
Whether I am just used to it or not - I don't have any complaints other than the usual wind noise, which is going to be there if you twist the frame too many times like so many of us do.
2003 1/2 F250 5.4L/6-speed 2WD: At 19,000 miles, the evaporator case/heater case/fan motor assembly had vibrated loose the 5 bolts holding everything together on the firewall. The whole thing made a very loud screeching sound, very annoying. (You could hear with with all 3 windows open and the radio on.) The fix was that I took all 5 nuts off, applied blue Loctite to the stud threading and tightened everything. Not a peep in 2000 miles. No other problems with this truck. (Fingers in a crossed and locked position.)
My SD issues: not high enough, no cross over steering w/ram assist, no bumper with a winch and Hella Balck Magic lights, no headers, throttle boady, air intake...shall i go on?
Seriously, i have an annoying clunk when i come to a complete stop and the truck settles back. Doesn't happen all the time and for the life of me I cannot find the problem. I've since learned to ignore it.
5.4 needs some assistance in the get up and go department and the highly debateable ESOF.
Love my truck just wish I could wave a magic wand and it be a 6.0 diesel instead or at least the V10.
Bought my '02 SD CC 5.4L used about 16 months ago. I've put a lot of miles on it, and fortunately anytime something has gone wrong, I get a good warning. Forinstance, the truck was sputtering a bit. Instead of it just quitting and not running, it kept on going (Ford tough!) until I researched it and cured it (by cleaning the air intake sensor; 10 minutes and $6 in electronic's cleaner later, and viola!). Other than that, I've kept up on the maintenance religiously and in turn, the truck's been very good to me! Knock wood....
BUT.... if I had to knit-pick: more hp out of the 5.4L, less of a raked stance from the factory, and a larger fuel tank.
Boy where do I start with mine. Alot of it is "cause and effect" type stuff. Since I have installed a 6.5" Pro Comp Lift and 37" tires. Lost one front wheel bearing, had to service the rear wheel bearings, lost a Lock out hub and went with WARNS, having a Vibration issue im looking at now. Other than that I have a rattling noise inbetween my drivers side front and rear doors at highway speeds. Love my ford though for some reason. Maybe Love is blind
Hey The Bull,
Did you try spraying WD-40 in the door latch? I know that when my light stayed on, a I soaked the latch and opened and closed the door to work the WD-40 into the latch and havn't had a problem since.
I bought an '02 F350 srw super cab 8' bed 7.3 auto in june with 13,000 miles on it. I have put 22,000 on it since and i love this truck. I pull a 7500 lb trailer almost daily, and plow snow with it as well. My only issues are the clunking in thie front end, (dealership says its sway bar links.... going in monday for repair), and the flimsy springs in the front end. It's almost like they put the same springs from the 5.4 trucks into the 7.3 trucks, hence the nose-dive front end stance. (ordered a leveling kit.) Other than that, these trucks are great. This is my 3rd super duty, and have never had major problems.
my superduties has some serious problems from day 1( remember i lifted it day 1!)... anyway these are huge issues that i can hardly look past, and i blame FORD for the all of it!!
1. V10 gets bad gass milage! doh!
2. Cant fit into my own garage, let alone any parking garage in existance!
3. Trucks to wide to fit between hondas at Walmart, w/out parking on one
4. Darn things soo heavy, it sinks like a rock in sand!
5. The truck is got so much power it makes me feel like my travel trailer is too little... makes me feel like i need to spend more money on a bigger one!
6. Truck takes 2 hours to wash and the hood is higher then my head!
7. headlights are soo darn bright, i get to see everyone else's high beams!
on and on!
i cant belive ive had so many troubles..... FORD man FOR LIFE~!
