Bumper height laws do suck
but we still need to have ground clearance
big lift and tires mean nothing when your bumpers have been dropped or modified to be legal
I think trucks need proportion not just lift and tires
if you have 3" body and 8" suspension and your "legal" bumpers are "dragging" the dirt
isnt that just counterproductive? not to mention silly looking
that's when you make bumpers so that their easy to remove and out of the way when your off-road, the reasoning for the bumper height law is so that you don't run over people or so they don't run under you
yes they do defeat the whole purpose... luckily here in GA unless it is just something extreme they don't mess with you much. i have seen some ppl rig up a system that slides in front and rear receivers that slides in and out for easiness. me personally i just deal with it. i have never been stopped but i am sure one day i wil have my 15 seconds of fame on the side of the road with a GSP!
My truck is mainly a mall cruiser anymore so I've got to get along with the cops.
Keeping one thing in mind though (although I keep my truck insured to the max) once your policy limits run out they will be comming after you personally if your proven neglagent.
I'm building my bumper on its own bracket so I'll just pull 2 pins and then I can raise/lower it and pop the pins back into place. I was working on a blinged out design for a hydraulic system to do this from in the cab but I didn't want all the extra junk on there.
