In my 68 F100 there is a seperate tachometer that was attached to the steering column. It was not hooked up and I would like to do so but am unsure how.
There are three sets of wires. Two sets have two wires each. As so:
Red/yellow
Black/white
Green
I woud appreciate any help you can provide. I do not want to just start hooking this up to the coil or power and risk damaging the tachometer. Thanks!
IIRC- Green should be the pickup from the ignition, but most I have seen have the red and black together for power and ground, and the other two wires are for lighting. Is there a brand stamp on the back?
The signal line will probably go to the - side of the coil.
one will go to ground.
one will go to +12 this terminal will be insulated fron the case.
the last is the light, it as well will be insulated.
At least this is the way they are normally hooked up. Some need a sensor, if it is a stewart warner or sun, you can go to their web sites and check. Hope this helps. Billemc
Thansk gentlemen! Thre is no brand stamp on this tach. I will try the setup this afternoon and report back. There very well coul dbe a reason it was not hooked up (I.E. broken) but I will find out!
