Yes. I repaired my son's Mustang with new bushings. But I just fixed a friends pick up by putting a washer between the door and hinge (bottom only), at both bolts. It might be just a temporary fix, but it was a lot easier. I loosened both bottom hinge bolts about half way. Then had my friend pick up on the door, and I did one bolt at a time. No idea how long it will last. Good luck with it.
Not to hijack this thread, but I have a similar problem. My door also drops down a bit when I open it. In combination with this, the front edge of the door contacts the fender, just barely, but enough to rub the paint off.
If I try the washer trick will that fix my alignment problem too? With the door closed, the gaps look normal and uniform. are the hinges slotted to allow some adjustment of the door alignment, and, if so, could someone please help me out and let me know what to look for? Tips on getting it right, etc. Thanks!
hey guys. in a more extreme stituation you might need all new door hinges because of age and use, but in general situation you could replace just the door hinge pins and bushings to correct this. it is a pretty simple job and will save you some headaches and money in the long run ie body work. i am the assistant manger of a body shop, see this all the time. if you have any questions email me.
There is some adjustment where the hinge bolts to the frame. But the problem is you will most likely have to remove the fender to get to the bolts. If you choose to change hinges or just bushings, it is easier if you have someone else to help you, especially if you have wires to deal with in the jamb. One slip can ruin a good paint job or even cause dents. Let the door sit on a bucket or crate to take the weight. Cover the bucket with a towel. If you are going to change hinges, mark them on the edges with a magic marker so you have a starting point when you re install.
