I have a holley 4160 on a 1979 van with the 460 It runs awsome once the engine warms up fully smells like fule once warmed up at idle. The engine will barley run when cold. The gass milage has droped since i put this carb on. where should i start looking for the problem. The idle mixture is set correctly.
See if your choke is getting any power. That would be my first guess. Then check that the carb is mated tightly to the intake. Finally, check the fuel filter, and make sure that it is screwed in securely to the carb, and that none of the threads are stripped.
choke is getting power and opens fully. I am in the process of changing the intake studs out (longer) replacing all the gasgets, and changing the power valve. the fuel filter is ok.
Also, after you replace all those parts, start with some good, precise float settings before your other adjustments. Examine closely the metering body gaskets and power valve when you remove them.
Thanks for the ideas i was running out. heck i got better milage with the elderbrock on here but could never get the choke to work correctly and it would not lean out enough. At least I know how to work on a holley
