Engine Change

What I've just recently noticed is a little hard to explain.

I have the 4.6L engine, and have always felt the power is more than adequate - in fact, it's pretty quick.

Around 9,800 miles I noticed a subtle change. The exhaust sound is a little louder and deeper. It also seems to have just a bit more power. It's almost as if I have added a new exhaust or intake, but I haven't. By the way, no complaints, I'm just a bit perplexed.

Has anybody else, 4.6 L or 5.4 L, noticed a similar change after driving 8 - 10,000 miles ???

Yes! The engine is getting broke in! It takes a long time for these engines to break in, but once they do, you will feel more power and which will make you exhaust sound deeper. I noticed the same thing with my 4.6L after after 8K miles! There much nicer after there getting broke in!

I've noticed the same thing with my 5.4L, now I have 13k on it, and loving the way it drives and sounds.

If it takes 10K just to fully break in, these engines should still be young and fresh at 100K - or more.

I have the 4.6 also with almost 6k miles. I feels a little sluggish sometimes but I am hoping the engine is not broke in yet.
