Question 97 4.6l engine swap to 04 police Int. 4.6

Was wondering if anyone has swapped 97 4.6l with a 04 4.6l.
Reason is I just got my hands on a 04 4.6l police int. motor with 34miles on it.
Would like to know what needs changing out. TIA

Hi Chad and welcome to FTE

I'm not positive but I assume that other than the intake and exhaust manifolds you will probably also have to swap the oil pan, oil filter adapter, sensors etc.

Police Int. motor

Im a Insurance adjuster/ex-cop. There were 19 police cruisers in a warehouse when Hurricane Ivan denmolished the building. When it fell down it crushed the cars. Motors and Tranny's perfect. Only miles on them were from the dealership to the warehouse. Got the whole car for 1500.00

The PI 4.6 has the coil-on-plug ignition system, not the EDIS 2-coil system found on the 1997 4.6. Don't know if it's plug 'n play with your '97's engine management system. You may need the Crown Vics chip, or have to have one customized for the application. Notice that I'm throwing the words "Don't know" and "may" around.
