I have a 2000 F-350 and just had replacement keys made at the dealer off the VIN. When I bought my truck used, the only key that came with it was a copy of a key that wasn't 100% fitting. When I asked the dealer yesterday as he was punching out my key, he said there is no chip on mine.
I was reading my owner's manual, '02 F250 SD, and it said there is a chip in the key. I went to a locksmith to have a spare made and he said it is not a chipped key. They are usually just the SUV's. I am still curious why the owner's manual said it had a chipped key.
'03 SD here with no chip. When I had my remote start installed they told me I had a chip and needed the bypass module. I bet the store manager $100 he was wrong. That $100 went to pay for the modules that roll the windows up and down. There are no chips in the SD keys.
05's do not have a chip....except the HD....go figure
Tim - I heard the same thing about the Harley.... but then I heard from an alarm shop that the key is "empty" and just used to hold the dual logo for FMC & HD. I will let everyone know when I take delivery in the coming week or so. I'll find out for sure as I'll go get a key cut and see if it starts the engine!
When I was looking at remote start stuff, I was asked several times if I had PATS. I don't know if that question immediately comes up because it is a Ford, or if some trucks have PATS. My 03 XLT 250 does not.

03SD - the PATS is the transponder key I mentioned... Ford feels that since they are work trucks that the security of the vehicle is not as much at risk. I just wish they selected a different wording than Advanced Security Group! It misleads you to think you have a security feature. Most think its an alarm which they find out otherwise when you open a door when you think its armed and nothing happens. They should have called it AEG - advanced entry group as it uses the key fob to unlock/lock and turn on interior lights! I also wonder why they didn't offer their factory alarm... as they have a pretty good unit you can add (ref. Gold & Silver alarms) But then the dealers wouldn't be able to offer you their add-ons... guess I just answered that one
I've been installing remote starters/alarms for 8 years.Never seen a Super Duty with pats system.Expeditions have it, Excursions have it, Light Duty 150/250 has it since 99 and switched to new pats system in 04. Have'nt done a Harley Super Duty.

Just wanted to follow up and let everyone know the Harley PATS keys are empty for sure (no chip inside)... I just got keys cut at Lowe's ($1.26 each) and they start the vehicle fine.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to add the pats system to a 2000 F350 super duty. It would seem like its a simple matter of adding a moudle, changing the ignition switch, and programming for the chip key, but I don't know for sure.
