i'm interested in putting an alarm, remote locks, remote windows, and remote starter on my 89 f-150. have any of ya'll done any business with www.asianwolf.com? a kid i used to work with bought one of their alarams and LOVES it. any input form yall? which alarm company do ya'll suggest? the above listed options are what i want, nothign less.
hi, i just installed a crimestopper unit in my 99 f250 sd, about a month ago, and i love it. of course, i had to get the extra relay for the windows..... be sure you get one that will give out a latched signal to raise the window ( this way it will roll as long as your button is pushed). that was not explained to me when i got mine, so it would only roll up in short bursts every time i hit the button.... what a pain... then i switched it out and now is great. also, on your truck, i believe you have a reverse polarity system on your door locks... that will make the installation a little more tricky.... good luck !!! be sure to make good connections also... i always solder all of mine to ensure its doen right the firts time. let us know how it turns out !!!
Personally, I would be reluctant to trust the reliability of any cheap no-name alarm system. They might work well initially but may fail in the near future. A much safer bet would be to go with a proven and well known auto security system made by DEI (www.directed.com) These include Viper, Python, Clifford, Hornet, Avital. Compustar is also a good brand. These will run you at least $200-300 installed. An alarm system's effectiveness is mostly in the install and not the brand and model. That is, a poorly installed $1000 system is not going to be nearly as effective as a well installed $200 system. Among many other things, a good install involves hiding the alarm brain well and camouflaging all its wiring and switches. I've heard the installers at most retail chains will just zip tie the alarm brain in plain sight underneath the dash. A thief wouldn't have to be a genius to figure out how to defeat an alarm system installed in that manner.
According to someone on the12volt dot ... asianwolf just relabels other compainies alarm systems ... for long term support you would be better off with original manufacturer. Additionally I do not think all of their remotes are legal for use in US. I have heard that use of illegal transmitters have resulted in some serious FCC fines.
