im lookin into finding an auto tranny for my 85 300. ive had no luck finding any 240's or 300's with auto at the junkyards.
a guy at the juck yard said the c6, and converter off a 302 will work
is he wrong? what are my options here?
thanks
-Sam
no, not the flywheel off of any 302 or 351w will work, the balance i think is diffrent or the bolt pattern, can't remember witch or both. about the converter, i would think that the converter should work fine, it is just the 4 blots, so i thinks it will be ok, what does everyone else think?
torque converter is the same....converter is meant for the transmission not the engine.
flexplate is different
300,302 and 351 all have different flex plates cause they have different firing orders for one....
even some 302's have different flexplates..
whatever you do just keep the flexplate with the engine..transmission is its own thing..and they bolt to each other...i have a 250 I6 c4 behind a 302 in my demolishion car right now.
You can swap 302/300 transmissions. But watch out with the flexplates.Fords got a ton of differant combos. You must go to a trans parts/rebuilder and get one. They have parts books with pictures of the many flexplates.
300 flywheels are balanced. All v8's are inbalanced (they have weights welded on them. Summit racing used to sell a flexplate that would fit a 300, early 302, late 302, and 351w. I bought one to use on my late model 302. It had weights that you took off for the 300, you slid them apart for the 28oz 302/351w, and you slid them together for the late 302 with 50oz inbalance. I don't see it listed in their catalog anymore though. It worked fine for me.
