Ijust received a letter from Ford concerning the replacement of the TFI-IV module on my '86 F150, What IS the TFI-IV anyway??? wonder why its taken them so long to let people know about it?
This IS NOT a recall, they just say they will reimburse for the cost, it sounds as if they don't want to do the work themselves.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Mar-02 AT 09:49 PM (EST)]It is the module on the side of the distributor. TFI stands for Thick Film Integrated module and IV is for the type of computer it goes to (EEC-IV).
It's main job is to fire the coil. It takes the pulse from the rotor inside the dist and sends it to the computer. The computer sends it back to the TFI module after modifying it for timing advance and the module uses this modified signal to fire the coil for spark.
I haven't got mine yet, read they haven't sent it to my dad........?????????? I'd like to be reimbursed or possible have a fix, cause I'm on my 2nd module since I've had the truck.
