I have a 02 F350 long bed crew cab,4x4,56k miles. I hardly ever take it off road. When should I replace the stock shocks? And what brand should I replace them with? Thank you in advance
If your suspension doesn't feel controlled on rebound from an impact and you get a bouncing or floating feel, that is a good indicator that they need replaced. Also if they are leaking oil they need to be replaced. Bilstein makes a great shock for the superduty. You will notice an improvment even over new OEM shocks. A few people on this site also like Eldbrock shocks.
I also have an 02 f350, mine has a 2"leveling kit on the front. I went with the Rancho 5000's, Night and Day Difference over the factory junk, I couldnt believe the ride difference. I also had about 58,000 on my factory shocks and they were completely shot. I still have one of them in the shop now that i compressed all they way the day i changed them out and it still hasnt rebounded, even tried it halfway compressed and it never moves, Kept it around for a conversation piece i guess
how about this, my tires on my 2x4 on the front look like this /--\ ...that and the ride has been pretty bouncy, swayful, you get th point. i had thought about replacing the front shocks/springs with a coil-over or soemthing similar. would this give the front end a little more lift cause i hate the way 2 wheel drives lean. i know i can get rancho's cheap at 4 Wheel Parts, so who knows.
