My question is such. I am in a touring band based in Western Canada, and we spend alot of time touring. This means a whole pile of money is burned on the road. Currently, I have an '85 econoline 150 with the 351w, and I would love to find an overdrive tranny to ease our road worries. What options are out there? I've heard talk of the E4OD but it looks a bit dicey with all the computer controlls.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have an auto with overdrive out of an 86 F150 4x2 if you are interested maybe you should give me an email fordkicksass69(No Email Addresses In Posts!), I am located up island in Campbell River!
If you find an AOD to install make EXTRA sure you have the right flex plate for the swap. Check, double check and check again. I put a 351 in my '86 PU and they gave me the wrong flex plate....tore up my front pump to the tune of $1300.00. (Had to have the AOD rebuilt).
Also, get the kick-down linkage because that's all that controls the AOD and it's critical to it's function. Make sure it's an AOD and not an AODE because the E is electronic and, I believe, you are carb'ed not fuel injected.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Mar-02 AT 03:53 PM (EST)]What trannys were available on the '86 E and F series with the 351W? I've searched everywhere, but cannot find a description of what is available. Is the '86 AOD electronic? Was there more than one AOD offered? How do you tell specific types? Any info is always appreciated.
85' E150 Econoline
351W
Captain's chairs (4)
Broken Cruise Control
(I see everyone else listing off their goods, thought I'd try it too!)
I'm not 100% certain but I don't think the AODE was put into anything until the early 90's. Maybe check at http://www.baumannengineering.com/aodcat.htm
