Wouldn't it be the time to replace the front u joints if you are replacing the front hub unit ??
Or do new u joints come with the hub unit, I know you just can't replace the bearings.
The U-joints do not come with the hub assembly, but the axle can easily be removed with the hub out of the way. All you have to do is pull it out. If the joint moves freely with no binding, slack, or "notchy" feeling from wear of the needle bearings, I wouldn't replace it yet. It's up to you if it has a lot of miles on it and you want to change it anyway.
I had my front suspension completely down when I replaced ball joints and I should have replaced the u-joints but i didnt doh! My truck has alot of miles on it so next time something goes up front I'll replace them.
If you have alot of miles and you got half of it apart why not replace them now and be safe for another how many years. Make sure you get the greasable u-joints also. If the 99's are like the older style (96's) watch when you pull the Spindle, I bought a manual for my truck and it says to use the spanner nut (think thats what its called) and a slide hammer to pull the spindle's off, well if the spindles are rusty like mine were you can cracka spanner nut and they're 10 or 15 bucks at the dealer, i went threw 2 of them. When you reinstall sand the lip alittle on the spindle to make it easier to get off next time (hopefully).
