Is it the Water Pump?

I have a 2000 F250 4WD. I have a coolant leak when ideling that drips down from the front of the oil pan. I cannot tell where it starts. Is this typical of a water pump leak?

Sure. There's a weep hole on the snout of the pump, can you tell if that's where it starts? (Admittedly, that's a really hard place to see from below.) But just about anywhere it leaks in and around the pump would end up dripping from there too.

Thanks, guys, I will check the weep hole. Have you replaced one? Is it hard for a typical wrench head? I did my own Wicked Wheel. What is the cost? I will probably do the 203* t-stat at the same time.

You can do it. There are several bolts, but no biggie to get off and on. Do your thermostat at the same time and get yourself one of those top radiator hoses that goes around the fan belt, instead of thru it (if you don't already have one).........

Red, good idea. I have read about that hose and this would be a good time to replace it also. Is there a special gasket material besides what would come with a new pump that you would reccomend?

Thanks in advance,
Kila

The waterpump uses an O-ring, instead of a gasket. Be careful when putting the pump back on so the O-ring doesn't fall out. I've had to glue it to the w/p with a few dabs of RTV to keep it in place.

I replaced mine a few months ago. I did a normal search for a replacement and found Ford remaned for $299. Autozone and O'Reilly's had those new for $299 and rebuilt for $199-$249. Found a parts wholesaler (Carquest) that listed the new for $129 and rebuilt for $149, don't ask me why but saved me about $100. Just thought I would pass that along.

I just bought a new one from EBAY for $137.00 with the gaskets. You might want to look there.
