No big deal, but are all the 99 model and up fuel gauges like mine? Does your fuel level go down REAL quick on the last 1/4 of the gauge? Left for work this morning and had just under 1/4 tank on the level. Drove 25 miles and now it's sitting on empty and the low fuel light is on. Got 400 miles out of the first 3/4 of the gauge. This is on a 29 gallon tank which looks flat on the bottom. Just don't understand. This is on a 2003 model.
Hope I can get the 12 miles back to town in the morning to get fuel before work
Well I got to town this morning...low fuel light on and needle on "E" (doesn't stand for "enought"). Put 29.9 gallons in my 29 gallon tank ( ). Cost a whopping $59.48 to do this! Would sure like a reponse to my original question...do I have a bad fuel gauge?
Yeah, I notice that the whole bottom half of my tank isn't as big as the top half, but especially that last 1/4. When I hit the 1/4 mark, I better start hunting a filling station.
The vehicle manufacturers designed the fuel gauge to go down slow the first half tank or so, to make you think you are getting great mileage. Then of course it falls fast past there letting you know it is time to refill..

I've always suspected that same thing. After that first 1/4 you're thinking "man this thing gets great mileage". I'd sure rather have an accurate gauge.
Thanks guys...glade to know there are other gauges out there just like mine. Will have to start heading to the pumps when she gets down to 1/4.
Good idea....funny story that wasn't so funny at the time:
To set the scene, I live ten miles from the nearest city and thirty miles from work. However the ironic thing is that I have two diesel stations within 1 mile. Anyway..... one morning I get up a little late for work and notice that I have about 1/4 tank of fuel. I think heck 1/4 tamk should be fine to get me to work and back. I mean do the math 29 *.25 = 7.25 gallons. Besides my overhead console was reading 16 mpg so that meant I should be able to go over 100 miles...again more than enough to 60 miles.
Well on the way home I get stuck in stop and go traffic all the way home....actually I ran out of fuel 5 miles from home and four miles short of the diesel station. Now the hard part.....I then had to attempt to push my F250 CC, SB, 4x4 PSD out of the way. I managed it but you can believe me that I was cussing the whole time . Lucky for me a guy in a F250 stopped and gave me a lift to the station. So needless to say I now carry 5 gallons of diesel with me....just in case.
Oh and the trip console was reading 5 miles to empty when the truck stopped running.
