302 or 351 stock car race motor

wich motor would be the best on to build up with the rules we are allowed??

The motor rules are:
  1. All power trains must be stock. No headers.
  2. Motors will be stock with no performance parts, except camshafts. Hydraulic cams only to a maximum of .500 lift. 74 cc smogger heads only. Max of 367 ci.
  3. No more than flat top pistons 4 valve relief (no popups).
  4. Any hydraulic cam to maximum lift of 500.
  5. Log type exhaust manifolds only. Exhaust to be a maximum of 2" OD with stock cast iron manifolds. NO CENTER DUMPS, NO CROSSOVERS (H or X style exhaust).
  6. No high rise intakes. 1" carb spacer plate allowed. Total assembly with carb gaskets to be a maximum of 1 3/8 of an inch.
  7. No late model heads on early style block.
  8. Any stock transmission (make to make).
  9. No fuel Injection!
We have a I6 300 And a 302. But should we build up one of those or find a 351?(w,c,m? which one) We only have about 6-700 dollors to play with.

Any tips hints, tricks and HP and torq #s would be greatly appreatated.

Also, the race vichkle is: 1980 Reg cab, stepside f-100(orignly had the I6, and old Gan. 1st cast iron trans)

Thanks For all the help
Russ

It depends on what motors are available to you. I would go with a 4v Cleveland, bigger ports & valves. Rocker ratio is something to consider being limited to .500 lift & a 351c already has a 1.73 stock.

302 vs 351

You all have to remember that the motor has to stay STOCK exept for the rules i listed above.

So 302 is lighter and hi-er reving

351 c is bigger, and better strok

Keep the segustions comeing

Its all a great help
