I am a new member and want to know the best way to ad disc brakes to the front of my truck. It is a 1954 F-100 with a 3inch dropped straight axle. Will spindles off of a early 70's truck fit. Will my steering likage still work or will it need modification? Or should I just go with a kit from CPP or ECI? Please let me know all of the pro's and cons of each setup.
Thanks.
master power is an excellent choice, you may also do comparisons at ECI in Connecticut, I have used products from both and they are top shelf. Ralph at ECI was a brake engineer for years and really knows his stuff. He can also advise you on m/c, brake line diameters and compatability of your rear wheel cylinders. Good luck
I just purchased a set of disc conversions from Classic Performance Products (CPP) last week and they should be coming via UPS within the next couple days. I'll be doing the conversion soon and posting pics on how it went as far as install. I'm running the original suspension also with a 2" drop axle in the front and re-arched front springs.
Thanks alot for the help. by the way does mpbrakes have a kit for a 1954 F-100 with a 5 1/2" bolt patern? I already have Mickey Thompson Classic II wheels for it that I got out at Summit on the returned rack. They are 15 x 10's in the back and 15 x 8's in the front.
54ford, mp lists a brake kit for your truck but with 4 3/4" pattern, the 57 up kits have the big pattern, they may be able to swap them with a bearing change. You can get them at mpbrakes on the web good luck
