First I would like to thank some of the very knowledgeable people who contribute to this forum and have helped me to de-bug my 2000 EB Expedition. The common problems and the posted fixes of ABS light, rear wiper, tie rods, shocks and front rotor removal have been extremely helpfull. I even printed out the BigSert article(fingers triple crossed that I will never have to use it)Now to test the electrical whizes out there. Living in the frozen north I (used to) enjoy hanging the tail out on less travelled snow or gravel roads. Is there any way to stop the Auto 4x4 engaging the front wheels when the rear wheels start to slip? If I need 4x4 I would like to manually select it at my discretion with the dash switch. Second electrical question. The ridiculous variable boost power steering is starting to drive me crazy. Is there an easy way to disable it ? Any direction on these two items would be helpfull. Also I am looking at a stainless-steel cat back system. I heard that the Borla is a bit too loud, anyone out there have the Magnaflow set-up ??

If the problem you're having is excessive steering twitchiness at highway speeds, it may not be a problem with the steering box or power assist. 1997-02 Expys react strongly to incorrect tire pressures. If you deviate from the recommended pressures, the steering loses feel and requires a lot of concentration to drive on the highway. Verify the correct tire pressures by looking at the sticker on the driver's door. My 1999 4x4 has 30F, 35R as recommended pressure. If I jack the front tires up to 35, the front end is all over the place. Many Expy owners are very surprised at the impact tire pressure tuning has on the vehicle.
I do check the tire pressure regularly, keep them 2 lbs over door sticker (32/37) in the interest of fuel economy. Might lower the fronts and see if the steering "feels " better. Thanks for the input.
