C3 leak

C3 leak
greetings to all
My son and I have been working on this old Ranger for a month now, and things are comming together nicely. It's been a great project for the both of us. While it sat in the garage we noticed a leak from the transmission that seems to be comming from the area where the selector linkage enters the trans case.
Now, We can turn nuts and bolts,change plugs and fluids. (we just replaced the heads), but I've been told by the dealers parts counter that replaceing that seal should be left to a pro. A $4.00 seal could end up costing $150.00!
Is the seal replacement realy that dificult?
Or should we tear into it with wrekless abandon?
Our Haynes manual has zero information on this.
Maybe there is a link that may be shared for this ordeal.
