Ok symptoms: start it up, sometimes it's fine sometimes it fluctuates in rpm's like crazy. When i go through puddles, the engine boggs down and feels less responsive.
my conclusion: im pretty sure its a vacume leak, but i dont know how to go about finding it and dont have the guage to test it.
question: is there any way i can physically find the leak, possibly by following the lines with my hand until i feel it or is that crazy? Also, would a vacume leak affect the transmission? how about torque/hp?
Vacume leaks can cause all kinds of probs, carb, trany, hp, hesitation, gph.
A vacume guage and Chilton are worth there wieght in gold. You can though trace your vacume diagram (there should be a sticker under the hood) and look for any cracks, kinks or disconections. Also just for fun, you can use a propane torch (UNLIT!) With the engine at normal op temp, run the gas over the lines and connections. If there is a leak some where you will know by usually a sudden rise in rpm or engine stall. I recommend the guage. Have fun and good luck.
i followed all the lines and most of the connections under the hood, i feel some places where i think there might be a leak but im not sure if they are. Ill try the propane trick.
