Anybody using a hard tonneau cover on their late model SuperDuty? I've been shopping local dealers. I wanted the UnderCover or VersaCover (actually the same product) due to the lightweight and strength... but it's not availabe in a longbed! So now my choices are the heavier fiberglass ones. The manufacturers that I'm down to are Leer, SnugTop, A.R.E. & *******, they all have their pros & cons! Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated... even if you have a shortbed.
I have the Snug-Lid SL(from the snug top prople) excellent fit, excellent color match, works well, relative easy removal for hauling and looks good, but it is expensive. I have had it on for over a year with no problems.
I had the snug top and loved it!!! Kept my bed dry and clean and geve me space to load and lock things. I highly suggest getting the tailgate seal as well to keep the dust out. I also highly suggest drilling the shock mounts and bed rail with a 1/4" hole and putting a nut and bolt through it to stop them from "walking". All of the new tops have what they like to call drilless mounting which means it clamps to the bed rail. I found that when I drove on dirt roads or a lot of bumps the clamps liked to move and throw the top/shocks out of alignment. I talked to a body shop friend who suggested the fix, he said they do a lot of them that way. I also found that in very high cross winds (30-40 mph and at hwy speeds) you might want to be sure to lock the top down or it will lift. Other than those 2 things I couldn't have been happier!!!!
I have a locking "Retrax" retractable (also locking tailgate) I really like it. It protects equipment and if I have something tall I do not have to take it off.
We pull a 5th. wheel. This covers the hitch, the generator and the compressor. When towing I slide it just forward of the hitch and it locks into position. Metal slats and it handles winter weather well.

I have a long-bed SnugTop. Basic model. Color match (Oxford White) was very good. I need to seal the leading edge (behind the cab) better than the dealer does, as I get water in the bed when it rains and I'm at speed. Counterweight air-springs are well balanced, and are reasonable to replace when that finally is needed. Is easily removed (but get a friend to help) if you want to haul anything large. I think the locking mechanisms are a bit light-duty, but their higher-end model cures that.
The only place that I find water in my bed is around the tailgate and that is minor. Maybe the "Retrax" is better at protecting the bed or maybe I am just lucky (which would be a first). It has done real well, rain snow or car wash.
I have the Leer hard cover on my 03 long bed CC. The paint match is perfect. It is kind of heavy and I don't like the locking mechanism but it does look sharp and it doesn't leak and is easy to remove with 2 people.

GREYF250 - has there been any issues with the top mounted key lock? I was surprized that they didn't have a cover over it. It would seem that moisture or dirt would create problems. I understand it is like a trunk lock so it is always locked when you close it (that seems nice)... has that ever been an issue for you? One last question, I noticed that they do not have anything that protects their front seal when you open it... Does water or debris enter the bed or get on the front rail and create closure problems?

t_j82 - what model do you have? Is it the SL or traditional? The dealers here never mentioned the tailgate seal... what info do you have a bout that? I like the idea of additional points to secure rather than relying on the clamps. I would think that would help greatly in replacing the unit to exact location as I will be removing it often for my slide in camper. Thanks for the input. As well any info on the top mounted locking mechanics holding up as I mentioned above to GREYF250
