Hi, I just installed a cap that didn't come with a 3rd brake light,
so I need to wire one up. I have a 04 Ranger 4x4, it has a 4-wire
flat plug under the rear bumper, but the only way I can get to work using the plug it flashes with the turn signals. Any suggestion????
Thanks Harry
You can't use that plug for the reason you stated; you'll have to run a wire from the cold side of the brake light switch to the high-mount brake light so it won't flash.
thanks for the reply, but I have no idea what your talking about. Can you please tell me what color wires I might be looking for, and where I might find them.
The brake light switch is at the top of the brake pedal arm, with two wires connected to it. One wire has power all the time; you want to connect your 3rd brake light to the other wire.
I think I would take the light assembly out of the rear of your cab, and look at the wire color. I don't have a diagram for that late a model truck, and you may find many more that just two wires going to the brakelight switch. You may find it easiest to splice into the third brake light you already have on back of the cab. Once you find the wire color, see if it runs down the driver's side rear of the cab, and comes out in the floor behind the seat.
