Does anyone use the K&N air filter on there SuperDuties?
I ordered the 2005 4x4 is the K&N worth getting? Or should I just use the OEM one?
Also will it void the warranty?
One more thing about the V-10 is there any break-in steps I should take?
Thanks again ~Gage~
K&N filters can be a very hot subject here. I personally am running them in both of my V10s and I ran one in my 91 460 also with no problems. The one in my DRW came with the banks power pack I installed and its about 30% bigger than stock. I have checked my work truck at every oil change and I find no dirt in the air tube running from the air box and my work truck is run on a lot of gravel and dirty job sites. As far as increased mpg or power its not enough to tell on a stock truck. With the banks theres a increase in pulling power but its a system with more than just a filter.
take a look in the post its on the way at the bottom is a list for break in ,k &n is a bad term in here do a search on k&n and read up till you can't read any more
I am one of the nay sayers on the K&N, not because thay are no good, just because the hype selling them is crap. They are a OK lifetime replacemnt filter, and IF properly maintained are OK for the long haul.
However a $250+ FIPK will not add any measurable HP or Torque at your trucks NORMAL cruising rpm.
Yes, at wide open throttle (WOT) there is a measurable gain.
I race with K&N on my drag bikes. But I will never put one on my poor truck that has to live in the dust of the southwest. Untill they are loaded up with trapped contaminents, ALL the cotton Gauze oil soaked filters pass more small particals than the paper throwaway factory filters.
Just my 2 cents.
You should know Ford V10s I have seen on a dyno, mine included. did not gain any HP or torque with the filter OFF at 1900-3800rpm. They did gain some above 4000rpm with the filter OFF but nothing to get excited about....Did you catch the fact that I said with the filter OFF?
Think about that next time you see an advert that hypes the products that are supposed to correct a factory "Highly Restrictive " intake system.
They are more bad then good, I have ran them and got a ton of dirt in the intake, tryed it well oiled and almost dry, nothing really helped, ende up going back to the Napa gold filter, for the .003 hp gain I would rather have the filteration, I did all this on my car, so when I got te truck I never bothered. If you over oil the thing the MAF sensor will get all the oil in the sensor and make your truck run like crap, if I lived in a warm climate (Florida-Cali.) I would run one, but farming and living in In. it is just out of the question....
