The Hemi first showed up in 2002.

The Hemi was an 03 option. Dodge was still using the 5.9 360 cid as thier big V8 in 2002. The Hemi may have showed up late in 02 for the 03 production year, but nothing big. Nothing close to a full year of sales. Resulting in the big sales boost in Rams for the 03 model year.

Yeah, I thought of that after the fact. Mostly for the 2003 model year.

I must say that I am very dissapointed! I absolutely love the new F-150. It is beautiful on the inside, handsome on the outside. It is the best riding, quietest truck I have ever driven. But the main reason for getting a truck was to tow my Jeep to Off-Road events and as a daily driver. (A 3/4 ton is to big and rides to rough for my taste)All I needed was the Hurricane for more power and a 5-sp auto to make it tow as good as or better than the Dodge and I would have pulled the trigger. I guess I will be in a Dodge Hemi this summer.

Is there that big of a difference for you to go to Dodge instead of Ford? How often do you tow the Jeep for it to matter that much?

i don't know what is wrong with the 5.4 because the 5.3 gm has is cranking out 295hp and 330 torque and gets great fuel economy for the hp. 15-16 with reasonable driving round town idk the specs for sure. don't count out the 5.4 for more ponies cause it has the displacment.

A 5-speed behind the 3V 5.4 in the F-150s right now would kill a hemi equipped dodge. I know wat im about to say will probably get heat, and isnt the best comparison, but when i raced a hemi from the green light, he wasnt that much faster at all. I can remember it too, because he was already half a truck length in front of me when we both stopped at the light, then he gave er and i gave er and he only inched away, the exhaust was right at my driver side door. that's just my experience, so dont take it to heart, lol. I cant believe Ford would just drop the program cold turkey. Someone spends that much time and money, u want a finished product, and at any rate, i would much rather see the developement of that V6 diesel in the F-150 than a huge gas motor. Much more market potential with this motor. If they do it rite, and with a 5-speed, i bet this little diesel would wipe the floor with the "Hemi" that dodge is pushing so hard. Anybody else think so? especially when the aftermarket creates chips and tuners for these new motors.

Motor Trend reports Ford is developing an Expedition replacement for the 2007 model year. Both the Hurricane and a V6 diesel are supposed to be available in it a year or two after that. I doubt the V6 will beat the Hemi in stock form, it just won't have the hp. The Hemi Ram 2500 slightly outruns an F-250 6.0 according to MT. Towing would probably be closer with all that diesel torque, but I still don't think the Ford would be ahead by much, if at all. Chipped, I bet it will be a different story though.

THERE IS NO NEED TO USE THE QUOTE FUCTION Admin

Ya, you are probably right. Not in stock form, but this is all theoratical, nobody knows the hp and torque numbers yet. I'd still be willing to bet, given the circumstances, that a chipped V6 powerstroke wouild get a hemi. A 5-speed would be a must, especially if Ford wants to stay on top.

It should be no secret to anyone that a hemi should outrun a diesel. RPM is the deciding factor in the outcome of a race not torque provided the torque is enough to provide a good launch. The hemi spins 2000+ RPMs more at least the the PSD. Same gearing, same weight and the Hemi wins everytime. This is why in stock form the PSD out performs the compitition, it turms more rpms.

In any type of towing contest though my guess is the PSD or any diesel will win if the weight is 5K or more. At that point the Hemi would not have enough torque for a good launch while the diesel is really wonder if anything is back there. I think the guys at Gail Banks are getting a Cummins to spin at 7K. Combine the torque that todays diesel put out and the ability to spin one a 7k and gasser don't have a chance.

Did you mean to say Excursion? Because they are developing a replacement for the X, which is going to be a stretched Expedition. And the V6 diesel would work great in a vehicle of its size.

But I am also hearing that the V6 could be going to a foriegn manufacture.

I will tow my junk about 4-5 times during the summer. I am sure the F-150 will tow it ok, probably better than my old Silverado Z-71, but not as good as my friends Hemi. The last thing I want is for him to pull away from me when climbing the many hills of eastern Kentucky, Tennessee and western North Carolina. I used his Hemi to tow my Jeep last year and was very impressed with the Hemi/5-sp auto combo.

You know, if Ford put a 5-speed auto in the F-150, it may make better use of the 5.4L's torque and power curve. This may make the F-150 come alive! It may be as simple as adding a 5th ratio and it could be a winner. Who Knows? Think the TorqueShift will fit in the F-150?

well when getting back to the roots of ford truck development, there has always been a push to make an affordable truck that is just plain tough. I mean it's fun to race and all, but personally I just don't see the point in the racing trucks. A truck should be used to haul stuff, go off road, and tow stuff. To make a 150mph srt-10 dodge truck is completely useless in my book. How much can that thing tow, and how reliable will it be in ten years. That's what matters in my book, and that may be what ford is trying to get back to. If you want to goa buck fifty, buy a mustang and a chip tuner to take the speed limeter off of it. you'll end up with a better handling vehicle with better gas mileage and more money in your pocket.

amish77, you are right, thats wat I look for as well. Bragging rights are wat performance trucks are for. I mean, the hurricane was/is more than "just" bragging rights, it would seriuosly cut into the Hemi market for sure. Everyone has their own ideals and opinions, so there has to be variety.
