I have a tach that I am trying to install in my 77 f250. It has 4 wires running out the back. One is for the light, one for the light ground. I take it one is for the tach ground and the last one I think goes to the coil.
I tried it this way with no reading. What have I done wrong?
Thanks guys, I'll get it hooked up right this time/
Maybe you can give some insight that I am obviously lacking on electrical theory.
1. Does every electrical circuit require a ground?
2 Specifically in this case if I have one wire hooked to power and the other to the neg terminal on the coil, do I have a ground ?
not sure what you are asking but in essence yes every electrical circiut is just that a circuit or circle so the electricity has to get back to it's source. now you mentioned the power, and the sensor wire hooked to the neg of the coil but there is also the ground wire on the tach that is hooked up or should be (the black wire) without that you won't get anything. but if you were to hook the neg of the coil straight to ground your vehicle would not run, the ignition module or points actually controls the ground side of the coil
