This would be on a 2000 4X4 Ranger 3.0 Auto Transmission. I did check auto trans fluid and added a quart of Merc #5 as recommended. I do notice that is seems to not down shift from O/D.
Ken,
I haven't noticed any speedo problems! Shifting seems to be okay, except the probelm of starting from a stop after driving a bit. Although, if I down shift to 1st gear (auto), it seems to down shift okay, or as to say, seems to start out okay instead of lugging down.
Also the lamp does not start to flash until the truck is warmed to normal temperature! Maybe that's a hint, or not?
I'm trying to get a heads up on what/where the problem may steem from, so when I do have to go to the garage, I'll know a little more about what it's going to entail and cost.
Since the fluid looks OK and you don't have the symtoms of a bad VSS the next thing to do is the codes, some local parts stores will pull them for free.
There are a few of us on this forum that are having the same problem with the flashing o/d light. I have scanned codes (nothing found), replaced the VSS and flushed/changed fluid but that pesky light comes on once in a great while. Very annoying, I'm almost to the point where I'm going to get rid of the Ranger. Like the truck in general but this light thing sucks, period! I wish Ford would weigh in on this and help us find a solution. Please post anything you can find relating to the flashing light. Thanks and good luck!
