I am having a similar problem with my driver's side window on my 2003 Expedition. I was able to get it back up, but I am hesitant on using the power to get it down. I want to fix the problem myself, but need some help on determining the problem. I know it is getting power to the motor, but I don't know if the motor is going bad or is there is something else. Would anybody have pictures or schematics. How hard is it to take off the door panel?
2003 Expys have a very shoddy designed window regulator. The cables that run the window will jump off of the cheap plastic spool that connects to the motor. When this happens the window will either not operate, or operate slowly.
There is usually grinding and cracking sounds involved if you can get the window to move.
Ford will be glad to sell you a new regulator for around $135.00. The door panels is not that hard to get off.
I don't know about the replacement of the regulator though. My new one has been sitting in the box in my garage for over a year now. I just have to remember to not go through drive thrus until it is fixed.
Dear Yardbird, Thank you so much for the info. The window worked but was slow coming back up, the motor seemed to strain. It worked intermittently for a while but now has quit altogether.
I can hear a clicking sound when I push the up and down button.
How does the panel come off? I am such a dummy on these new model cars. I used to work on cars in the years from 1968 to 1975.
