4.0 V6... how long??

Our '94 Ranger's 5 speed tranny finally died. I'm thinking about replacing the tranny since the truck's in otherwise excellent shape. Here's the problem.. the truck's got 248,000 miles on it. My question is.. do the 4.0 V6 engines last well over 250,000 (when properly maintained)... ?

It's worth fixing, if that's you mean. Why not just drop in a used tranny from a boneyard?

I called around and the only found one tranny that they "think" is good (30 day warrantee, etc..). Slept on it.. and decided to fix it. In fact, until the engine has a major internal issue, we've decided to keep it going. Just ordered a rebuilt tranny a few minutes ago. Our new goal is to get it to 300K!. (plus this gives me time to save some more down-payment $$ for the new MUSTANG).

Most miles I've seen reported on a 4.0 was 325,000 over in the Explorer forum. He mentioned it was running fine, but was somewhat tired.

Good info.. thanks. That would probably give me 3 more years on this truck but if I can get antoher troublefree year, I'll be way ahead.
