I am going to an 8" lift soon, is it reccommended to put a spacer in the front driveshaft or should I take it to the driveshaft shop and get it lengthend?
How much needs to be added?
Can I drive without the front shaft installed for a few days? I have manual hubs with the floor shifter.
Seen someone on tv put this lift in can't remember who. They also done the spacer but they said it wasn't a real strong option. I think they said it would be fine for what they were doing but it was best to get it lengthend. I don't know how long it would last if you were to beat it much.
I would just take it to the driveline shop and have it built to right length. Nothin' like losing a driveshaft out on the trail when you need it the most!
I agree, I'd lengthen it vs. installing a spacer. You can drive without a front driveshaft. As far as how much to have it lengthened you have to wait until the lift is installed and then measure your truck.
Well kinda. You don't have one u-joint at the top but rather a flange so I'd just take it to them and let them measure it if I wasn't sure. I just had mine done 2 inches with 8" lift which was a bit much. I had really low bump stops so my front end was limited in up travel. It works great now with 11 inches.
If you are doing an 8" you will probably be ok with 1.5 inches of added length. Also you may need to do some clearancing on the DC joint at the top to get enough angle. I spent so much time with a die grinder on mine today I'm thinking about opening "Mike's high angle driveline"
You can drive your truck as far as you feel like without a front driveline. It will have absolutely no effect other than the 4x4 not working of course.
