Engine Color

I know there has been a lot of discussion as to the color of the block and how they differ from year to year. So far I've discovered that my tranny is out of a '69 Torino. (The tranny tag says "C4....." does that mean it's a C4 tranny) I also discovered that I have a 390, although have yet to measure the bore (near future). The engine block is blue however, and I'm wondering if the Torino had a blue block? I forget the id. numbers for the block etc.....(I'm at work) but will post as soon as I get home.

Question

This is all in my '65 F100 long bed.....

The tags are as follows:

Heads are C4AE6090G (what exactly are these from?) painted blue.

Rear end appears to be a 9" with 3.25 gears which I believe are stock? (I'd like to get a locking dif. or posi. traction, what are the pros and cons?)

Block shows C6ME-A on the passenger side (is this from the Torino?) painted blue as well.

The intake is a Edelbrock Streemaster 390 and it has an 'brock carb as well.

Can you believe I got this truck for free? It seems someone put some TLC into this effie, once I take apart the innards to replace the clutch. I'm thinking I'll do the disc brake conversion as well as add a cam if there isn't one in it already. Anybody wanna take a stab as to the the HP it's putting out? After the clutch I'll be looking at the rear-end, any suggestions? Almost forgot about the oiling mods as well, but does anybody know if this block will need them?
I'm a newbie to all this but really enjoying my time and all the cool info I'm learning about this old gas hog. Thanks for all the help guys!

Hey, If you are gonna paint it, paint it the color that you want and don't worry about car colors. I would paint any engine that I put in my 66 blue and in my 92 twould be grey. Those are period correct and I like em.

I'm sure I'll re-paint it Ford blue when I get to that stage. I was just wondering if anyone knew if the Torino block or those type of heads came stock with the blue paint?

The C4 heads are 64-65 352/390 heads. Generally any motor after 67 was painted blue. Not quite sure why you believe the trans is out of a 69 Torino. A C6ME-A block would probably be a truck motor. Check the stroke and see what's inside, that can limit your availability and help your ID better.

Question

Thanks mike, I was thinking the engine came out of a Torino because of some information from a previous post. The tranny is a top-loader 4-speed (truck came with a 3 on the tree per i.d.) and is stamped: C90R-7A040-A

The previous post from Barry:
"Going by the tranny tag, you have a 4 speed trans out of a 69 Torino. Most likely if it's a 390, they swapped engine/tranny combo from the car into your truck."

I wasn't sure if the tag on the block went with the tranny though? I did measure the stroke using the dowel method, and it is a 390. My main concern now is that I buy the right clutch for it. Anyone know of a good place to get a clutch? Also unsure if I should get a HiPo clutch because of the mods on this engine already and my wanting to put a cam in it?
