I have an '89 F-150 4x4 and I recently swapped my old 302 for a Jasper rebulit 351W. I have been told that the 351 will run on the same computer, but not very efficiently. I think I could get a lot more power if I had the correct PCM. The problem arose when I tried to order one from my friendly neighborhood Ford dealer and I was told they couldn't help me unless I have the calibration number off the old module. I found out there are eight different modules available for a 351 windsor engine (I assume for different model years?) and no specifications are provided to tell them apart other than the calibration number. I tried calling a few places and no one was able to help me. Has anyone encountered this problem or know who to call?
As long as the computer is for a truck with your matching engine/transmission combo, then it should work. I'm sure some are california emissions, but generally they all should be the same for the same engine/tranny combo. Maybe try http://fordfuelinjection.com and see if you can find any more info there.
you can also try www.partsamerica.com used to work for that company and they list all the options for the year and make you specify. let me know what happens. i'll see if i can hunt one down for you too.

ryan at fordfuelinjection.com can also hook you up with the correct ecu. you need one that was for a 351/c6 combo. i did my swap 2yrs ago and got that same ecu from ryan and it works great. what tranny is in your rig?
Yeah, the problem is I have an AOD and I'm pretty sure they were never paired with the 351 in stock production
so know you know what pcm to get. did you also get the proper flexplate from an late 80's crownvictoria? I hope you didnt use your 302 flexplate or the original one off the 351w cause it wont be correct
yeah, thankfully someone told me that before we put the new engine in and i got the correct flywheel from the autoparts. A friend of mine made that mistake and had to pull the engine back out after he started it up and realized the mistake (from the shaking)
