Build a 351W its easy to bolt in and just as cheap to rebuild as a chebby. Motor mounts = tranny and EX will be easy to hook up. If you buid the 351W you'll be much better off in MHO. Tim R.
forgive this young man,for he knows not, knows not the right way to build a ford,a truck of beauty, but instead to discuorge all who care, and put a 350 in a ford.......DO NOT DO IT!!
Yea there is no way i would ever sell my truck, its in awesome condition i got it from vegas and there is no rust to speak of, it was my first truck/vehicle i got it when i was 16 and now im 19 i dont drive it anymore cause i have a integra to get around "better gas mileage" so my truck is just sitin with a cover over it, and i want to bust it out again. I have the transmisson for the 350 and everything i need, i got it out of my dads 55 chevy!
If your truck is in awesome shape then it really deserves a FORD engine. You have great taste in trucks so keep it up with the proper Ford engine as well. There is no other way if you want to do it right, do it the easy way and keep it the awesome truck will be.
I think you should do whatever you want with your truck. The true pursuit of hotrodding is to make your vehicle go faster, run better, and make do with what you have. Some people arent on as strict of budgets as us young guys. I have a '53 effie i built myself. I started working on it 2 years before i had a drivers licence. It has a 350 because it was 1/2 as much cost to build for double the power as a ford. I did what i could with what i could afford and i couldnt be happier. Probably in a few years ill rip it out and put a ford motor and mustang II in it, but for now I'm havin fun with it just like it is. Just think it through and dont do a quick hack job on it because that is something youll regret down the road. I even bought a '52 f1 that a guy put a toyota 4 cyl in(now thats something to be sick about, dont worry ford guys i rescued it, its got a rebuilt 302 waitin to go in now).
well,im 16 and have a budget,no job, running on allouince and borrowed money and i still have a 289 smallblock....so and i also go to votech in the evening afterschool....so dont talk to me about working with wut u have, save up ur money, thats wut i did,my engine has forged everything, its a kick *** engine.....
doing a ford engine swap is tough enough...swapping a chevy has to be even tougher. i personally don't like to use the word cheap with any of this stuff...chevies may be less expensive stock, but if you want more horsepower, the prices equal out as hp increases.
you have a second vehicle, take your time and make an informed decision. find a dead 240 at a salvage yard and rebuild it yourself on your time schedule. putting a chevy in your truck will not increase its value. if your truck has good compression, rebuild the carb and do a major tune up and keep some money in your pocket.
i just pulled a 351M from my 68 f100 shortbed...the 460 is in my living room being rebuilt. cheers, garsten tucson,az
here's my 2 cents fords stay fords and !@#$% stay !@#$%. the small block chevy has been done so many times it's wore out and I've seen too many of them one more is just wrong!
Guess that we are not much help in your quest but there is a general consensus that indicates you should use a Ford engine. I totally agree and hope that you do.`Much easier to put a Ford in a Ford then to do other wise and if you ever want to sell it later you will probably get this same reponse from potential buyes.
i put a 289 in my truck, easy as pie....cheap to,no fabrication needed,if u put in a chevy it will decrease ur truck's value.......it's more ok to put a ford in a chevy because it makes the chevy better, but putting a chevy in a ford will make it worse.
Darn Guess, I better jump in here too. I say when your young you just do what ever you want to do and do it. But as you get older ah and smarter
is when you think back of all the screw-up you did trying grow up. And this maybe one of them. my 2cents
