Torque converter?? I always line one stud(on TC) up straight in middle of bell housing, and turn crank on engine and line it up straight in middle(before lowering into eng compartment), use a jack and lift trans as high as poss to aid in lining up eng. and trans.(if you had TC out of trans MAKE SURE you turn and seat it all the way in the trans) If you mean cat converters, yes you can still leave them in there just watch as you lower engine cause the pipes like to get hung up on manifold studs.
ok...then... When I took the engine out, the tranny w/ TC stayed on the vehicle. The rebuilt engine then just hoisted in and straight to the tranny w/TC already there. Everything lined up. easy as pie.
My question is...... Why is my tranny guy saying that "whoever put the engine back IN didn't line up the TC" thus making me lose 3rd gear in the tranny. The engine and the tranny wouldn't bolt up if the TC/tranny weren't sitting right? yes?
That's how I see it.... plus that i drove about 500 miles break in period for the engine.
sounds like you need a new tranny guy. if the tc wasnt lined up with the flexplate properly it wouldnt have bolted together period. so hes blowin smoke up your ***. get your rig away from him asap and find another shop before he messes up your tranny
well....that's the thing....the tranny is still in warranty....so he fixed it for free and got it back last nite. works fine. but yeah ..i dont have any idea why he would give me the run arounds????
i probably have the stock rebuild with his heavy duty trans kit. www.actperformance
what kind of upgrade did you do to yours? what did you spend for the upgrade?
my trans is stock. but will look to upgrade in a year i figure. i want to keep the AOD but get it built with the 4R70w which is a wide ratio set making 1st & 2nd geared lower which is nice for wheelen and it will handle over 400hp/trq
hrm...interesting? 4R70W? I know when I loss my 3rd gear and limping on 2nd. It sure felt nice, feeling manual (it held to 2nd gear for a long time) and had all kinds of response and torque. I've been thinking about also getting a art carr gate shifter, so i can go through the gears a lot better.
what gear ratio do you have? I guess they say 3.27 or 3.55 rear axle ratio works best for the 4R70W. I have 4.10. Which my high band OverDrive hits a hill grade with lots of peddle left and less torque{edited: less hp}. Until I drop to DRIVE. Then the response is GREAT!
