my air injection manifold has a leak where the down tubes connect to the head. is there some kind of silicone i can put around them to seal the leak? its real annoying going down the toad and hearing that tick tick tick tick tick..... im not paying 500 for a piece of tube either from the dealer. i was thinking about welding, but that metals real thin. any suggestions?
The air manifold has 6 perfectly straight pipes (tubes) 1/4" in diameter that are welded to the log. A nut and furrel slide over the tube. It really shouldn't be much of a job to pull the assembly up, cut the tube that leaks about an inch from the log, get a piece of 1/4 inch steel tube and a compression union and add the lenght you need. I can't believe Ford wants 500 bucks for that thing. Last one I bought was around 44 dollars. That was perhaps 14 years ago.
If you want, you can get rid of the air injection into the head. Its purpose is to reduce the emissions when you first start the engine when it is cold. After a minute or two, the vaccum line switches and them dumps the air into the cat. That is what I did, put bolts into the head to block off the exhaust gas. Got rid of the air diverter valve, vaccum lines controling the diverter valve, and connected the two hoses with a pvc pipe. Just something to think about.
does the air injection have anything to do with the thermatic air system?.......cause i get a code for my thermatic air......and would eliminating the air injection cause a code?
