Going to throw my 2 bits in.... I had the stock 1 barrel on a 240, but it was worn out. I had a 600 cfm Edelbrock (PN#1405) off of my old blowed up 360 (Mopar) lying around, so I thought, Why not. I bought a 2 to 4 barrel carb adapter at autozone, and I fabbed a 1/8" thick piece of aluminum plate to put under it. Took the 1 barrel gasket for a template, and made my holes in it. The original studs for the carb were too short, so I took the egr valve off, and they were too long then. Hmmm. Removed the studs and used two manifold bolts off of the 360 to bolt the adapter to the intake. Then bolted the carb on. Still got to work on a real throttle cable, got a rigged-up one for testing.
I really figured this carb would be too big, but I had it lying around and figured it would do more good on something than just sittin in the shed. It is very responsive, and doesn't bog when you floor it. You can barely hear the back two barrels open. But hey, for $30, it ain't bad. Just thought I might share that, as I'm aware people are always asking on carb advice. I don't exactly have the funds to go and buy an Offy intake, but will start scouring the salvage yards.
The OEM throtle cable for the 300 is the longest and may work. I used an aftermartet Cable and bracket from LoKar and purchased them from Summit. Very happy with the cable and it is long, 32 inched I think (without looking). I cost about $50.00 for the 2 parts.
probably made mileage a little better than the worn out 1 barrel. I don't drive the old pickup much, but I know it sure runs a hell of a lot better. Just thought I'd post that in case somebody was curious if it would work, of course mileage may vary. Sometimes there's only 1 way to find out if something will work. Experimentation is always fun. Especially when you allready have the parts on hand. Thanks for the reply, will try a different cable. The motor came out of a '74 Ford E-150. Has a 3 speed behind it. Am hunting for a 4 speed with a transfer case to put behind it. But it's just something to play with. The motor and tranny's new home is in a '74 Dodge W100. Hahaha
