Ok Guy's a quick response needed here if possible,
I have the chance to buy a Diablo Predator for a really good price but it needs to be tonight,
Anyone have a preference for one of the others (Hypertech/Superchips) or are there better mods for the $300.
the Ex is a 2000 5.4 4x2
I tow a 5000lb travel trailer during the summer which is my main reason for looking to do this but would like to improve the day to day driveability too.
Any views/ideas would be greatly appreciated<!-- / message -->
Where are you getting it from? Motorhaven.com has them for sale new at only $340. I say call them and ask the question. I hate pressured sales- when you have to buy today or it goes up. Normally, time constraints lead to problems with the sale. I would wait and research...40 bucks is nothing if you find out it was not what you needed. You can buy chips, not tuners, for 300 all day now at motorhaven.com
The problem is I live in the UK and the rebates from motorhaven etc are not available over here so it would cost me $399 plus shipping. Other Diablo dealers may not be referred here. <!-- it is on ebay at $309 + 25 bucks to ship to the uk. --> OK I know not a lot different but still worth it? <!-- ebay search for .....--> Diablo Sport Predator Tuner F150 Super Duty Gas NEW
importers over here want £300GB for one which is almost $600 so what would you do?
Most importantly is it worth it or are the others more effective? or not?
Have been in touch with the seller who has them for sale all the time at this price so no need to rush in.
I do not know how great the difference is, but I am ordering a chip from Motorhaven this week. I am not saying you are wrong, buy the rebate from motorhaven is instant so I do not know how it would not work for you. Part of what you pay for is knowledge and support. If it is what you want, it is warrantied, and the tech support is there; then it sounds like a good deal. I worry about the title being super duty F150 although I did not look at ebay for the specifics. I am looking at a chip that has 4 programs burnt on it for different octane ratings for 300. The programmer is programmed by you and the chips are programmed by knowledgeable techs who help when it is not right.
Good luck.
Thanks for the reply, I agree that I would rather buy from somewhere and get the back up, suppose I just needed to be nudged in the right direction, will e mail motorhaven and see aht they can do for shipping etc,
Thanks for your help.
The MotorHaven.com web site is unable to calculate shipping to the UK. You have to call or email and have it handled on a case by case basis. The dealer you referenced, like all auction dealers, will not have its products warranted by DiabloSport because they do not warrant auctioned items.
I agree I would rather have the backup......However the question remains the same, anyone prefer one tuner/programmer over another and why?
Just want to do the best I can for what I want to do with the car
From what I have learned, Banks Power makes the best stuff. It may not make the most power or be the cheapest, but its the safest for your rig and will not inhibit the PSD's long life expectancy like some of the others. I am told that for good dependable power Banks is the way to go. I was told this by Gene of www.sledpuller.com , he runs a competition diesel that makes an easy 1200 FT/LB of TQ.
Thanks for the reply but I did say in my original post that my EX is a 5.4 gas engine.
(O Lord won't you buy me a PSD)
Looking to improve to a PSD on my next trip to the USA in April/May
Ah....sorry. In that case, I personaly like the Hypertech over the Superchips. Why? Well, you get VIN locked to your superchip...this is a big deal. If you ever buy a new truck or want to upgrade to some new bigger/better programmer you cant sale it. The Hypertech can be sold as long as you put your truck back to stock first. My pal has the 5.4L and has the Flowmaster cat back, Hypertech chip, K&N FIPK-II, 180° thermostat....and I think thats it. He saw fantastic improvements in towing power. He hauls a 34' enclosed trailer every weekend and he says the changes we did on his 01 5.4 3 weeks ago made a great improvement in towing ability. We asked here in the superduty forum if it was worth doing and we were told no, get a blower or turbo or your wasting time....well...if your expecting your 5.4 to act likea race engine than you will be dissapointed, but if you expect to gain TQ and tractability you should see a nice change that makes the truck better. It wont make it a V-10, but it will be a nice running 5.4.
Thanks for the replies I knew if I came to the fountain of knowledge I would get my rewards.......those were just the type of answers I was looking for.
I know that the truck will never be a racing car but when did you ever see a corvette off road hauling a 7000lb load? or a souped up rice burner with 3 kids 4 dogs and wife comfortably seated.
My Ex does very nicely as it is but I would like to make the job easier for the engine/transmission when I do tow.
Thanks again UKSD
Would love to JD but seems KB only have an application for the V10 and not the V8 Ex, I have emailed them to see if they do a one off.
Maybe the same one for the F250? I don't know will let you know when they come back to me.
Thanks UKSD
