Howdy all, I have a 2000 F-250 5.4 that I have done a lot to as far as wheels, tires, stereo, etc so I really am attached to it and hate to start all over. I am looking at putting in a supercharger on. First off I know that this really belongs in the supercharger section below but no one really goes down there and I think I have a better chance of getting my question answered here. I was wondering if anyone here has put one on their rig. Any tips or certain brand that I should look at. I need more towing power and would just like more umph all around. Thanks for any help!
I was wondering the same for my '02 F-250 SD 5.4L. It has 81,000 on it, so not sure if it's too late or not a good idea given the amount of mileage on my truck???
Hope someone with some real-world experience chimes in....
Thanks for the thread, Mississippi!!!
DS
PS- just for grins and giggles, I'll start a similar thread in the Supercharger forum. I'll let you know if I get any responses worth a look... DS
Sounds good. I just wanted some real world results and wisdom before I shell out that kind of cabbage!
roger that! I've got notices set for this and the thread I started on the Supercharger Forum. Keep ya' posted.... Have a crawfish for me! (man, we loved 'Nawlins cuisine!)
I have a Kenne Bell SC on my '01 V10 and I love it. Can't speak for what one would do on a 5.4L but I'm sure you'd love it as much as I do mine. I've done some other performance mods as well but got the best bang for my buck with the supercharger. Gas mileage went a little further south but if you want to play you have to pay, more power means more gas. I'm running 7 psi which is more than enough to launch me out of a hole pretty quickly. Don't like doing burn-outs because tires are way to expensive but they can be done effortlessly. The kit I got from KB came complete with everything needed for the install, including bigger injectors, switch chip and a boost-a-pump all for around $3950. I wish I would have went with a SC from the beginning because I would have saved myself money in the long run by not wasting money on other smaller mods that really didn't give me the extra power I was in search of. You can't go wrong with a blower!
Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if the internal lubed were better than the ones that you have to tap into your oil pan and use your engine oil. Did you do any research on that before you bought yours?
I know what you mean by you wish you would have done the supercharger right off the bat. I have plenty of things such as the chip, and the new filter that are included in most kits.
One more thing for you kenneBF250v10, how many miles did you have on yours when you put yours on? Thanks again. Sounds like there are a couple of us that are interested.
My understanding is that the self lubricating ones are better because you are not pumping in oil that is already hot. Believe me, as fast as those twin screws are turning you want everything as cool as possible. I didn't research that, I found out afterwards. I mainly went with the KB because I heard good things about them from folks who had them on Mustangs and Lightnings. The only other one I checked on was the Whipple and I can't say for certain, but I think it uses a tap in the oil pan for lubrication and was a little more expensive. The KB was very easy to install, just a little time consuming but with stuff like that I like taking my time, too much money invested to rush the install and screw something up. If anyone has any more questions please let me know, I'm not an expert by any means but I have a pretty good working knowledge of the KB. I believe I had around 56,000 miles on my truck when I installed it. It's an '01 F250 Lariat, 4X4, crew cab, short bed. For a 7,500 lb truck it gets up and moves in a hurry. Their website is kennebell.net, check it out to see if they even have an application for your vehicle.
