Got my first tattoo yesterday and was wondering what you guys did for keeping it clean and looking good when you got it. The artist told me to use lotion on it and such. Also, what was y'alls first tattoo, mine is an outline of texas that is going to be filled in later with the state flag.
I just put a little polysporne on it for a couple days with a piece of gauze covering it and then left it open for a while. Just remember, nomatter how much it itches, don't scratch and don't pick at it.
As for what I have, I have a wolf on the back of my leg and drawing (nothing really just a neat design) that my brother gave me on my upper arm up by my shoulder
I plan on getting a Canadian flag on my shoulder blade, but I am waiting for my wife to decide what she wants so we can go at the same time.
I got my first tattoo for my 20th birthday. I got the Chicken Hawk, from the Warner Bros. cartoons. That's my CB handle, so I guess I'll never be able to change that. It's on my right arm, just below the shoulder. I got another one in the same spot on the left arm, a couple months back. It's the VanHalen flying VH from the Sammy albums. The wings wrap around my arm, it's pretty sweet. Like Couleeman said, DO NOT SCRATCH IT !!!! Follow the instructions that the tattoo parlor gave you exactly. As far as long term future care. I use Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Healing lotion (the kind that doesn't stink real bad) on it every day. When I wear sleaveless shirts, I put sun block over the tattoo. Remember, TATTOO + SUNLIGHT = FADED, NASTY TATTOO. I went back to the same shop that I got my first one at almost seven years ago. They were impressed how well it looked. It has just a little fading and no bleeding.
I've been told a couple things for mine. My first was a Tribal Thorn Barid around my right arm. Artist told me to buy a new bottle of Neosporin and use it for about a week, not to let the shower spray directly on it and avoid direct sunlight for a few weeks.
Another thing I've been told ba nother tatoo guy is to use an intensive care lotion with no dyes or perfumes in it. Pretty much the same advice to along with it, don't pick at it, it may or may not scab over, if it does, let them naturally fall away. One of the more inportant things is to use sunblock on it when in the sun, as tatooed skin tends to burn easier.
Once you get one you have to have another and another . . .
OK I tattooed for almost 10 years and there is about a million things different artists will tell you...
Here is what I tell my clients
Lubriderm works good, dont gob it on, light layer is fine a few times a day
stay out of the sun, dont scratch or itch it!
There is a product out there called tattoo goo and that stuff works great if you can find it, thats what I use and trust me I am covered!
Dont put anything gauze on it, they only put it on you when you first get it too absorb the blood and even then I only lubed it up good and wrapped in cellophane (doesnt stick to it) and told them to take it off in about an hour.
I got mine when I turned 18 it's a little running horse ( not the mustang logo) it's below my belly button ( way below) there is a pic of it on my web site under "about me" . DO not scratch it, keep lotion on it ( I used lubriderm)!
My first was a snake on my upper arm in 1968. A week later I got an eagle on the other arm because I thought I looked lop sided. Both still have some color left besides the black.
I met those guys way back when they started, they asked if they could sell it in my shop and I was all for it. I am so glad that have had great success!!!
Very nice people, and Calendula is one of the ingredients and I swear by that stuff!!
