I went through this topic with the hope of understanding what people like about them.

I think we simply like stupid, corny, mindless humor like a couple of grown guys poking each other in the eyes and hitting each other with shovels. I can't help it......I am even laughing about the Stooges right now even as I am describing their corny humor.
My wife came from a family where her mom did not allow her to make funny faces, and while I have broken her of some of that, she still thinks the Stooges are stupid.
When I wear a Stooges T-shirt in public (I have several) women I don't even know will walk right up to me and say "I hate them!" They don't seem to like the Marx brothers much, either. One of my favorite bits Curly did was when he saw a mouse: Moe! Larry! The Cheese! Moe! Larry! The Cheese!
The Stooges enjoyed uncanny popularity in the 1930's. They are still on TV in the year 2005; the show airs Sunday morning where I live. A 75 year run,... not bad at all.
I love the Stooges, If I ever see any of them them in Heaven or Hell, or we meet in another life, I will gladly say, Nyuck, Nyuck, Nyuck, thank you very much for all of the laughs.
In fact my username here is a play on two stooge shorts .. "I Will Never Heil Again" and I think "You Nazsty Spy!" - Moe was recruited to dress up like a moron dictator for Mr. Ixnay. "Moronica, For Morons!"
I hated Joe Besser. What a wimp. I didn't like Joe DeRita either.
I heard someone break out laughing this morning when they unexpectedly heard an audio track of Curly making one of his trademark vocal expressions. Robin Quivers, a lady on the Howard Stern radio show, was talking about current events and the sound-effectsman, Fred Norris, was spicing things up by playing various stooge audio clips. I forget what Curly sound was played, but it caught Robin by surprise and she had to stop mid-sentence and start to laugh. Howard has used the Stooge audio clips before, to add a few extra laughs, and he was using them alot this week. I think it is a great idea! Just another testament to the power and genius of the 3 Stooges.
What channel does the Three Stooges come on in your town? I would like to see some of the rare Shemp/Besser shorts.
