4.2 V6 Vibration problem
I have a 98 F-150 4.2 V6 Auto 4X2 with 107K miles on it. As of late when stopped with truck in gear, there is a very pronounced vibration that can be felt through the brake peddle and steering wheel. The vibrations have at best been slightly noticable, and at other times have been so bad that it it can rattle the dashboard. When in park and running at idle, there is no problem, netural same thing no trouble. But step on the brake and put it in gear, either forward or reverse and the problem starts. Same when comming to a complete stop at a light or stop sign.
I have not noticed any slipping when driving. And the vibration does not seem to happen when the truck in moving. The truck was just tuned up and fuel filter replaced by the dealer at 100k, and the trans and rear end fluids and filters were changed at 70K. The check engine light is not on, and the idle stays constant, and it does not stall or hesitate when stepping on the gas.
Any idea's or suggestions would be helpful.
That said, it sounds like there is an idle problem since it happens with a slight load. I would start by putting on a vacuum gauge. If it is showing a low vacuum, I would check everything that could cause a low vacuum most importantly the EGR valve.
If there is a good vacuum, I would clean the Idle Air solenoid and the throttle body.
Hope this helps,
Doc
